Not a terrible Monday, all things considered. I’m still working out of a Starbucks until they clear the bugs from my office. It was actually kind of a busy day. A coworker was out. When that happens there is desk coverage, meaning the rest of the team picks up the slack for the day.
I like my new job. I help with credentialing so applicants can get placed at various locations with various requirements. It is similar to my last position in the sense that it is a lot of moving parts and revolves around good time management. The best part is I’m part of a team now, so I don’t feel like the weight of a whole department is on my back.
Actually, the best part is the healthcare is really affordable, and I can afford good coverage. That is a struggle off my shoulders. Granted, I haven’t used any of the resources (even though I definitely need to go to the dentist), but baby steps.
Amelia got an invite from a friend in her kindergarten class to attend a Cub Scout meeting. That’s basically Boy Scouts for children under 12 or so. When I was a kid it was boys only. However, a few years back—in an attempt to get some positive PR amid the sexual abuse allegations and uncovering—the scouts opened the program to girls as well.
While they may reinforce the imaginary gender binary, it’s at least a more inclusive step.
The meeting itself was absolutely chaotic. It’s basically activity moms trying to wrangle various levels of children who are either A) uninterested but forced to be there, B) interested but obviously a leader’s child, or C) not sure what the hell is going on. I was in scouts growing up. My dad took me to a few cub scouts meetings but the pack dissolved when he started working nights and no other adults wanted to put in the work.
I had a good time doing something with Amelia but I don’t think we’ll go back. She’s been mentioning camping so I think I’ll do that with her in the upcoming months. I think that would be a blast and a half. I just look forward to the time we get together.
Got a little grumpy with her at bedtime then took time to apologize because I was really upset with myself/Marie’s mom. Long story short they lost the pacifier then blamed it on everyone else. Her dad eventually found it.
Love you mom, dad, sis, kitty, Marie, Amelia, Emerson
