Ended with Kissing

9-17-23

Today was a fair day. We had originally planned to take the kids to a farm that Marie’s parents have been to before. But then Marie invited them. I was fine with that, and we agreed to go at three. The issue is that, instead of going to WinCo over in Modesto, I went to CostLess in town. I probably spent the same amount I would have at WinCo but only got a fraction of the stuff.

I got home with time to spare so decided to wash the car. We were waiting for her sister to get back from the gym, so it wasn’t time wasted. After I finished we fed the kids. Got in a little spat with Amelia because she said yes to one food, then changed her mind after cooking, and then gave an even bigger stink when I made something else she wanted. I can’t comprehend that girl sometimes.

Truth be told I was a little upset with the events of the later afternoon. We didn’t end up leaving for the farm until like 3:50 pm. I was worried it was going to be closed. That would mean we couldn’t follow up on the promise we had made to Amelia. That always gets me: when plans we make to treat our children get sidetracked/cancelled because of other people. It just angers me so much that we have to accommodate other adults, who can practice timeliness, just because it’s considered rude that we’re living our lives.

All that said I did have a lovely time at the farm with Marie and her family. They do help cut the tension sometimes, especially if Amelia is getting tired of her mom and me. It doesn’t sting as much as it used to, because I realized the issue was my pride and not the other person.

The farm was nice. We got some nice saltwater taffy. Amelia and I watched in dismay as a duck attacked a hen in the pen they shared together. It kept pulling feathers out of the little chicken. We tried hissing through our teeth to stop it but that little waddler didn’t give a fuck about us.

The strawberry smoothies at the farm were absolutely delicious, though. We’ll go back in October when they finish building the playground and open the pumpkin patch.

When we were finished we went out to dinner. I wanted to treat Marie because a few weeks ago she let me know that 9-17-23 was National Wife Day, and I have a history of being bad with holidays and special occasions, so I wanted to make the best of it. She said the flowers I got her from the grocery store would have been enough, but I wanted her to feel as special as I think she is.

Marie’s parents paid for our dinner which was really nice. We had some alone time when we got home since her parents and sister ran an errand.

The night ended with kissing and cuddling, and thinking about the long Monday I had to look forward to.

Love you Marie, Amelia, Emerson, mom, dad, sis, kitty
