Mask On

9-12-23

Worked from home today and was absolutely exhausted by day’s end. I was in such a groove with my last position because I never got tired watching the kids then. But now I’m tired working from home, even when I don’t really watch the kids at all.

It’s not that I don’t want to help. It’s more that Marie’s parents are weird when I work from home. They say they’re accommodating, but then they also say it makes them uncomfortable when I’m working up in the room by myself. They talk about how it’s probably uncomfortable, or just being in a room all day would be crazy. But then when I tell them it doesn’t bother me they disregard it completely. Maybe I’m more exhausted because, on top of work, and occasionally helping with the kids, I always have to have my in-law mask on.

I can’t say certain things around them, and have to word my sentences carefully. But then I also can’t say too little or it’ll be taken poorly. The thing that gets me is how often and regular they take things out of context. And they take it out of context because they don’t ask for clarification. But they won’t ask for clarification, which is annoying because they say there’s a breakdown of information. Only, when we try and provide context and codify our feelings, they just ignore what we’re saying in place of their own assumptions. It’s quite rude.

Either way things are going well. Marie had follow-up interviews for the company I work for, just in a different office. We think she’ll get the position, but there’s a lot to consider with the change. In the end I am wanting her to take it because her current company doesn’t value her at all. They only care about the numbers and not the quality of the customer service. They’d rather rush people to get their money then create a welcoming environment. Quite telling, especially since she works for a medical facility.

The kids are doing well. Emerson fell asleep early. He might have woken up early, but it was still nice to go up early and lay with him. I didn’t have to deal with the in-laws after their Target haul, and I got the chance to play on my phone, uninterrupted, for about an hour.

Love you mom, dad, sis, kitty, Amelia, Marie, Emerson
